Different industrial relay solutions

Common problems with relays

What are the types of relays?

Relays are generally classified into electromagnetic relays, signal relays, power relays, automotive relays, solid-state relays and other industrial relays

Relay: An electric switch that controls high-power circuits with low-power signals. Widely applied in vehicles, home appliances and industrial systems. Enables small-current activation of large loads, circuit isolation protection, and automated power switching

Most regular switches are manually operated. A relay is driven by electrical signals, enabling remote and automatic control. It also isolates high and low voltage circuits to protect the control-side circuit.

Industrial relay vs. commercial relay?

Industrial relays have higher load capacity, better environmental resistance, and longer lifespan. Commercial relays are smaller, lower-cost, and suitable for light-duty applications (e.g., household appliances).

Based on electromagnetic induction, a small current through the control coil generates a magnetic field to attract the armature, which drives the contacts to open or close. When the coil loses power, the magnetic field vanishes, the armature resets via the spring, and the contacts revert to their original state.

The core difference is application scenarios and load capacity. Signal relays suit low-voltage (5V/12V), small-current (<1A) signal circuits, prioritizing contact reliability and signal stability for control signal transmission. Power relays handle high-voltage, large-current (≥1A, up to tens of amps) power circuits, focusing on contact anti-welding/ablation and coil overload protection for high-power devices.
